Matthew Ockenden

Matthew was born in Sydney in 1973 and began learning the piano at age five. He attended the Conservatorium High School where he studied the piano and the bassoon. He completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at the Conservatorium, and furthered his studies in Europe in 1996-98.

On returning home, Matt won the bassoon position of Section Soloist with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra,performing at the Sydney Opera House. He has also performed overseas with the Malaysian Philharmonic and toured with them to Japan and Korea in 2001.

Matthew won the position of Associate Principal Bassoon with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. He is in demand as both an orchestral and chamber musician around the country. Matt has always had an interest in a wide range of music and is working on completing an album of original tracks.
