2015 world premiere

NSWQ is seeking sponsorship and donations of any size to help fund our latest project, the 2015 world premiere performance of a new work from composer Lyle Chan:

The Only Fairy Tale (There Ever Was)”

Aimed at a family audience, the work is based on the question, “What if there was only ever one fairy tale?

What if all the famous stories about Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella, the Frog Prince were actually the same people going through all the adventures…?”

Written for three actors, “The Only Fairy Tale” is a fireside chat where a king and queen recollect their youth to their curious young son. The boy’s eyes widen as he listens to the adventures of this mother, who ate a poisoned apple, lived with seven dwarves, was locked up in a tower, spun straw into gold, lost her slipper at a ball and kissed a frog. The boy can hardly believe his ears at the adventures of his father, who encountered his future wife as a sleeping princess needing to be kissed, had to rescue her from a tower, find a slipper’s owner, and made the princess sleep on a pea under a pile of mattresses.

By turns hilarious and heart-warming, the misadventures of the king and queen as a young prince and princess unfold as a seamless single story in this work for 3 actors and wind quintet.

The NSWQ’s previous collaboration with Lyle was the highly-successful ‘RENDEZVOUS WITH DESTINY‘ featuring Foreign Minister Mr Bob Carr as narrator, now available on iTunes.
